For
controller and pilot Airborne Collision Avoidance System (ACAS) regulation and training, ARINC uses Adobe Reader,
CD-ROMS, and webpages with useful links.
Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) Training
The
training is offered by virtual means on a CD-ROM. The CD-ROM is based off of the Federal
Aviation Administration (FAA) Advisory Circular 120-55B. It has an easy-to-use interface that
“illustrates actual TCAS scenarios to provide a “near-hands-on” experience
(ARINC, 2012, para. 1). ARINC also provides booklets that students can download to his or her
computer to read and print out if he or she desires.
Maintenance
ARINC
constantly evaluates the training by reaching out to the pilots and controllers
that use the Resolution Advisory (RA) system.
ARINC provides, disseminates, and collect pilot and controller
questionnaires that ask questions pertaining to near air collisions and the RA
system. The questions give students a
real-world example of how pilots and air traffic controllers dealt with the
system at work. The questionnaire is downloaded in PDF, filled out on the computer, printed out, and mailed or
faxed to the company. The company also sends
out bulletins to students to inform them of updates and improvements made to
the trainings and the RA system.
Issue
The training
deals with dangerous scenarios and includes real-world scenarios. The training fails to have a place where
students, pilots, and controllers can discuss the issues that the training in
his or her occupation. ARINC promotes
itself as a leader in training. ARINC
should provide interactive boards for the students to be able to talk to his or
her counterparts in the job to understand how the RA system works while on the
job. Facilitating an interactive board
could add to the TCAS scenarios on the CD-ROM and the booklets.
